Elections

Posted February 1st, 2005 in Poetry, Theater by M

Mirth would be the most appropriate reaction to the just concluded KANU elections, with a sprinkling of puzzlement

Mirth
- Anthony “Terminator” Kimetto, with his Buffalo haircut descending on a hapless Secretary General Julius Sunkuli with kicks and a mahogany chair
- Secretary General Julius Sunkuli’s timeless quote “I felt like I had been hit by lightning” after being kicked in the cojones by Kimetto
- Dalmas Otieno, Mutula Kilonzo and Chris Okemo pulling a fast one on Nicholas Biwott and defecting the night before
- All 3 feet of the Total Man rushing up and down in Kasarani
- Elections starting 11 hours behind schedule
- Dalmas Otieno’s delegates theatrically outraged with him for switching sides without so much as a “by your leave”

Puzzlement
Why did Biwott run for the chairman post at all? There is no way in hell he would have been good for the party, and I’m sure he knew this too
Conspiracy Theories
1) Sponsorship by Moi and the “owners” of KANU To discourage anyone else from giving Uhuru a run for his money
2) Sponsorship by Kibaki’s Boys to make sure that KANU had no hope in hell of being a credible opposition
3) Knowing that without Moi or a party position he was pretty much just another 3 foot tall dude. He has an inherent need to call shots somewhere or the other

Prospective Chairman Nicholas Biwott ignores the cretin who has just asked him to stand up.
“I’m already standing!” an annoyed Biwott mumbles to himself

another conspiracy theory – it probably worked for MOI because now the kyuk vote is split down the middle, with both kibaki and uhuru on different tickets…just a thought

Dalmas Otieno despite what people say about the guy has shown that he is consistent in his political aspirations, even when it was fashionable for ja’ngos to fo with Raila, he stood my his party since Raila’s motives, as we have now witnessed were just as power hungry as the regime he has been fighting. My thing is we need smart, honest leaders, among luos, Dalmas is a brilliant guy, the man was in Makerere, once owned a financial institution, and has the greatest track record of developing his consituency, even when he was no elected! gotta love a brilliant man who is a real devoted mwanainchi

I have to agree with the above. Mr otieno is one of the few politicians who has shown some integrity and cosistency in his career this far he’s truely the people’s guy. And he’s work goes beyond his call of duty. I was posted up on Athi River for a job and myself and some colleges took a tour of the salt mines while there. There was endless praise for a so called Otieno who commissioned the rail track allowing for the transport and trading of goods in and out of the area. If all politicians could aspire to make changes that can be seen 20-30 years down the line where would our country be now? Give responsibilty to the folks who are actually educated and better equipped to utilise it selflessly. A big pat on the back for the fellow
