Much as am a Catholic (whose mouth keeps getting him into trouble) I was not the least bit surprised to hear that the Pope was hospitalized. I mean let’s call a spade a spade. The Pope’s health is an impediment to his duties ergo he should retire and pass on the mantle to the more able. It’s about time we had an African Pope

    There are times we need to call a spade a spade. The dude has serverd his time and done a lot of good work. Now is the time for him to take a well earned rest and pass on the baton!

    Even if we cannot get an African pope in this lifetime as Maitha rightly points out, let us hope we get a pope who can make some urgently needed reforms. There are several pertinent issues the Catholic Church needs to address – celibacy among priests, sexual abuse of children, the role of women, contraception, etc. The list is long…

    Pope Gregory XII in 1415 retired, as did Celestine V 1294. No reason why this one should not if his health won’t let him do the job!

    there’s a lot to be said for the pope hanging on and remaining the head of the church … he’ll leave when it’s his time to leave til then i think we still need him
