Quality Control

Posted April 19th, 2005 in News by M

<INFO>Just a shotgun post to gather views</INFO>

Looking at my site statistics informs me that more people visit now that they did some 4 months ago. Visits are increasing.

This pleases me.

Looking at the number comments left informs me that people comment less now than they used to. Some posts were unable to inspire a single comment.

This concerns me, especially factoring in that more people are passing through. Why am I concerned? Because I don’t know if am hitting a chord or wasting your (and therefore my) time slaving over a hot stove — er keyboard. In fact on that note

Blogging -> Cooking

Comments -> Compliments to the chef

No Comments -> The food sucked

This could mean one of the following:

  1. I post way too often which could result in
    1. No time for people to comment
    2. Familiarity breeding contempt
  2. Quality is descending, therefore there is nothing to be said
  3. I’m becoming predictable, therefore there is nothing new to be said
  4. Beginning to talk about stuff no one is interested in, therefore nothing to be said
  5. There are gremlins at blogger.com that wreak havoc
  6. None of the above

I cannot speak for other bloggers, and in fact am very skeptical about the concept of blogging ‘just because you can’. Feedback matters to me. Perhaps I should cut down and post weekly…… Anyway, lemme know. I take critique very well.

Let me speak for myself as I cannot presume to speak for others. I read your blog every day and I always find what you post enlightening, insightful, hilarious, interesting, intriguing and useful.

Be that as it may, I don’t always comment and this is my reason why: I always feel that anything I say will be inadequate. You posts sought of just say everything and more that I could have wanted to know. Sometimes all I can think to comment is “Amen”, or “Hear hear” or “WOW” or “LMAO”. Seeing as I don’t want to come across a dumb blonde, I refrain from commenting.

Please don’t think we aren’t reading, or that the quality of your posts is going down or those other suppositions you’ve made. I know people who’ve been reading your stuff for four years.

Ps/ You’ll be seeing a lot more “Amen”, and “Hear hear” and “WOW” and “LMAO” from me!!!

hmmm lets have a pycshoanalysis…ooppps meant psycho’s analysis on your situation

    Well first off
    1. You are anything but predicatable.
    2. You dont stink.
    3. I will personally inform you if I do see that you are getting… how can I say… stale and boring.

Also. I havent been able comment much because at times the only thing I can add is a LOL which knowing you would result in a post saying… all you leechers who come and just post LOL’s please I know you are a bit limited in the vocabulary department but do try and use words with more than two syllables!!!

Then the last reason is that I am so busy laughing I can hardly compose myself to type a comment.

In fact at the moment I am taking a break from Thinker’s as I have noticed that I am getting weird stares from people in the corridors. I think behind my back people are refering to me as “The chic who laughs hysterically on the computer”
Which is not good for my image.

But trust me. Your work is appreciated and its DAMN GOOD.

Me, myself, personally…thinks you should not a change a damn thing. Maybe most of the stuff you write have this finality in them that a person might either feel he/she is just regurgitating, what you just said..unless you wish to encourage dissent for the sake of it.

    All in all props

m – your blog is one of the first things i read every morning together with news/emails – what i am thinking when i am reading it is “yup” “that’s true” or “so funny” which i will add to the comments now with greater regularity :)
i think if anything your comments have gotten funnier – i was one of the skeptics of you leaving the geocities site and coming here but your blog is just as cool if not cooler than the original site :) plus updated more regularly, so keep doing what your doing – if only more often :)

Don’t you dare stop!! I rarely (ok I don’t comment)coz I’m busy forwarding your blog and the interesting posts to friends around the world (free advertising). Infact, we would appreciate if the posts were more frequent. And I concur with all ms k has said.

PS: The ‘free advertising’ is always well referenced.

I am one of the more quiet ones (though I have left a couple of comments). I have followed you since the good ol’ Mashada – that is, before Mashada went to the dogs!
I promise to be more vocal. I do know how important feedback is.

“Still waters run deep”.And you know what,I’m one of those readers who’ve been with you from Day one (yes, that’s right, day one) in Thinker’s Room. But, I’ve never responded to any of your articles, now that dont mean I dont like them but to the contrary i do get a kick from your writing.Keep up.

    Hi Thinker,

Don’t dare think of giving up. I read (have been reading you religiously since geocities) and as one person commented, I can only say LOL, AMEN, I feel you etc, not a real comment. But, you’ll be getting these every day.
Keep blogging, you make my day.

I downloaded the Kibaki meme, and am almost done.

My question is it appears to be more about Lucym, which makes the answers more tricky.

M – are you contemplating retirement? weewe! what are you trying to do? I comment like a motha! I worry some dude will call me a groupie or something. Anywayss..Just kidding.

The range of issues you blog about is great are you kidding me? Just claim comments fuel postings and threaten to boycott for a month.

  15. nick says:

damn this sympathy thing actually worked for u…i would know i’ve tried it b4…now go the insanity way an du have it made. LOL

  16. KymmBr. says:

Allright!! Now that everybody has said what a great blogger the owner of thoughts is, shouldn’t someone just come up and say it sucks…just for some laughs…

    Am not hating…am just commenting.

  17. Afromusing says:

ditto on Ms K’s comments. Your writing is COOL.Comments have to be well thought out before just being thrust on Thinker’s room, u set a very high bar!

  18. Ms K says:
