Heads Up!

Posted June 26th, 2006 in News by M

The NARC Government, which apparently I am supposed to thank for its benevolence in granting me freedom of expression, went out of its way on Sunday and one of its chief rattlesnakes pillars, Internal Security Minister John Njoroge Michuki put a full page ad in the Sunday Standard where he not so subtly dishes out warnings to radio talk shows, newspapers and Internet bloggers.

The Internet bloggers bit without a doubt did not come from him. I have for a long time been of the opinion that Michuki and his ilk are of the opinion that the Internet is a new fangled fishing device. But one never knows.

Bottom line — bloggers are now on the government radar.

With all of the — ah — colourful post I’ve written, I’m not sure as to the wisdom of availing myself at the next blogger meet up. You never know if the Kanga Squad is gleefully reading the date and venue and is looking for balaclavas, Berettas and Bata Bullets. My friends if you know me — you don’t. Really. It was all in your imagination.

Personally, keeping from dropping soap in showers is not a pastime I’m entirely looking forward to …

I won’t be cowed online but I jolly well will keep a very low profile physically!!!

QUOTE OF THE DAY

He he! I wish I could have said this on air after the Brazil match!

“They say it’s not over until the fat lady sings. And with two goals, Ronaldo just did.”

Ati when foreign gunmen draw their weapons in the main airport it is a small matter in the big picture? what are you drinking my friend?

A govenment’s job is to govern and that includes delivering national security. If foreign clowns can pull such pranks at JKA then we are certainly no mach for the al zarqawis and bin ladens. Tena your privitizations and trickle down corruption mean sweet FA. We are not all activists. The looted stash abroad may actually be hidden by your “trivial clowns”.

If someone has made a mistake let them do the honourable thing and resign. Nobody is indipensable.

    Amen

@joe – You have a valid point BUT the Arturs have harmed Kenya. Let me count the ways!

    1) KQ has been trying (since 2003) to explain to the idiots in the government the importance of upgrading JKIA to FAA Cat 1 status. This will enable KQ to tap into the N.American market. Currently all N.American bound passengers have to use European cities e.g. London or Amsterdam. KQ could keep more revenue instead of sharing it with KLM or BA.

The Artur incident will delay the certification on JKIA by at least 6 months which results in loss of Kenyan jobs i.e. pilots, mechanics, food suppliers, check-in staff, etc

    2) KQ just entered into a code-share agreement with Korean Air. This arrangement would have benefitted tourism as Koreans have one of the highest per capita incomes in the world. They want to travel & Kenya is one of those spots in competition with S.Africa. Korea placed a travel advisory for Kenya which means KQ, Kenyan hotels, Kenyan curio traders, etc all lose out to S.Africa!

    3) My taxes were used to “guard” the arturs. Remember the police bodyguards they had? They had cars with GK plates – I paid for the cars through my taxes!

    4) When the Standard was raided by QRU (apparently led by the arturs) my taxes were spent raiding the offices of a tax-paying entity! Standard Media will write off the losses during the raid thus reducing their tax bill! Furthermore Standard media sued the government & I have to pay thru my taxes to defend the nincompoops (michuki et al).

    5) michuki publishes a statement in the newspapers & I am SURE I as a taxpayer had to foot his bill for placing the advert!

    6) The ticket bought by the government/police for the arturs was an additional cost that could have been used to pay for medicines, malaria nets or repaired a police car!

The idiots who let the arturs in & stay on should be hounded out of office then prosecuted! There are genuine mistakes BUT the artur business is not a mistake but bullshit!

ok you have some valid points . But let me let you in on the truth .it seems the papers have span a web of lies that are now being believed to be true .This are the small things that turn a die hard kanu man like myself into a narc kenya defender . lets begin with the KQ -america issue .

    1. kenya airways last year withdrew its application to aquire land rights in the united states when negociations with the FAA broke down over the issues of kQs code sharing with KLM as part of the deal kq was being required to drop its european partners in exchange for access for a miami route.According to the faa allowing kq would have givem klm an unfair advantage over other airlines since it had a code sharing agreement with KQ(REF. http://bankelele.blogspot.com/2005/03/kenya-airways-says-no-miami.html) Other industry reports indicated that kQ opted out because the routes being offered were not profitable(http://newssearch.looksmart.com/p/articles/mi_m0CWU/is_2005_Feb_7/ai_n9489016).

    2. On the korean front according to the korean ministry of finace the only travel advisory concerning africa is on on fishing vessals of the coast of somalia .

On both points one and two a little reaseach on the internet as well as pay attension to facts will show that the news reports that many kenyans keep repaeting as facts are lies .someone once said that everything you read in news papers isnt the true what shocks me is how much kenyan believe what they read .

Arturs body gaurds and stole materials found at the runda residence: i guess this is why people have been suspended and investigations are going on what elsecan i say . as for michukis advert in the paper i dont want to be drawn into such matter leaste we start accounting for even what kind of cerals our president eats for breakfast.may it turn out he has kellogs for breakfast at statehouse we would never hear the end of how abdi is starving because kibaki eats coco puffs . i think i have made my point with the kq fiasco/lies what is even more annoying if you ask me is the governments inability to correct the lies that are being unleashed against it . if anyone should be fired it should be mr mutua. mr kibira (presidential press service) and all those guys in state house who are sleeping on the job .its a shame that pur first lady has to defend the government when we have paid civil servants who are meant to be doing this job .

please check out the facts before believing everything you read this kq story is getting old .artur kibaki and this mess has nothing to do with kq flying to the states -read the sites i have posted )

@Joe – Careful there before you fall into your own trap. KQ apparently rejected Miami’s (MIA) offer to fly there 3 per week coz it is “not profitable” BUT you are forgetting that KQ was also negotiating with Atlanta at the time.

Could the “rejection” simply be a ploy for further discounts from MIA or ATL?
Further KQ has since opened up new W.African

Regardless of whether KQ found it profitable in 2005, they will eventually fly to the USA &/or Canada coz of the huge market esp now that KQ is a regional airline (Uganda, TZ, Rwanda, etc) which uses JKIA as a hub.

Simply, I do not agree with you! I said the fiasco at the airport will lead to a further delay in KQ’s expansion plans. I hope the Paris flights slated to commence in October are not affected!

Let’s address the other issues which you skipped.

Back to the Standard raid. What of the “lost” profits? Surely you don’t believe the photos of burning newspapers were “fake”… BTW, no newspaper spoke of lost profits or litigation costs but I am doing so of my own volition.

Regardless of Mutua’s incompetence – note the poor guy has little idea of what is going on coz its GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out) – roocy shouldn’t have been slapping reporters. Anyone heard of assault?

And kibs should be eating Proctor & Allan cornflakes or Weetabix NOT Cocopuffs! After all if he can’t spend taxpayers’ funds on local goods why should other Kenyans?

Since you are or used to be a kanu hack, remember moi flew BA not KQ. If the idiot had supported KQ then there would be more KENYAN jobs! Then he buys a Fokker when the country’s poor are dying of hunger!

My contention is simple… the “special” treatment given to these arturs was at my cost! The additional costs expended on the artur saga is also at my cost!

I don’t give a camel’s ass if artur or kibs or michuki paid for it from their pockets! I had to pay for it & that pisses me off!

Final post on this topic! Read that the Dutch PM tendered his resignation coz of the flap over Hirsi’s (Somalia-born Dutch MP) “withdrawal” of citizenship by a minister in his government.

Compare the above to Kenyan ministers/civil servants who sweep all their mistakes under the carpet. This galls me esp when they are economic crimes because its MY tax KShs being squandered. I consider the arturs/michuki raid & aftermath a waste of economic resources. This includes the “commission”, lawyer costs, equipment destruction, “free” plane tickets, etc.

  • donworry

It seems we don’t really need civil servants to sweep stuff under the carpets if our own fellow countrymen can do it for free with links thrown in for good measure.

I must say that I am surprised at the off-hand and summary dismissal of fellow bloggers whilst applauding ati democratic space; michukiism if you ask me.

Do you really imagine that by weaving and spinning around to obscure the issues you can make this rattlesnakes messy diapers disappear just like that?

I might stick out my neck here and suggest that there is no law which states that “to know the difference between right and wrong is a privilege reserved for those with experience of government”

Strange things happen and perhaps one patriot will post a ka link here to prove me wrong………

  • http://www.4your411.blogspot.com joe

Vitu vingi Sana@ you have made my day .kibaki should not be eating coco puffs but Proctor & Allan cornflakes or Weetabix. That is so funny. I must say I am impressed at the way you stated your case though we can agree that the artur thing should not have happend. Let us disagree on the significance and impact of their workings. On this point, we will never agree. on the standard raid remember I called the burning of papers as the work of a few overzealous officers though I agree with the concept of national security raids aimed at confiscating dangerous info. We will just disagree and wait until (if it ever happens) ldp comes to power.

People! The era of the freedoms of information and expression is surely here with us. The government should not and cannot even try to prevent it. Big Brother, sorry, you are behind the times. Big Brother, we are watching you.

You’ve been watching too may foreign documentaries. What makes you think there is actually SOAP in our prisons? I think they just tell you to bend over–you don’t have to drop anything.

Anyway, if they start imprisoning bloggers, you will have so many friends with you you won’t have to worry. Perhaps you can start a jail (gaol?) computer class.
Don’t worry love, we’ll get you out. Unless we’re in with you.
