I must admit i had quite a good laugh reading this article and how right you're. Can't fathom the thought of sitting still to watch some of the shows you mentioned above but i will watch 30s Rock, Hustle, Dexter and Criminal Intent. I haven't seen an episode of Spartacus to offer any insight. For the films, i have decided my enthusiasm could be better utilized on watching Indie films and ignore the big budget movies that Hollywood is currently spewing because lets face it they're going to be complete garbage. And as though that isn't enough everything is suddenly being made in 3D. Why can't they understand that they loose the whole essence of the film by doing so and what was so wrong with 2D? I could go on and on about this but am just going to be more frustrated so will quit while i still have my sanity intact!

In the midst of the Seattle International Film Festival, I have to say that there are great movies out there, but the reason most people don't watch them is because most people have decided that they don't want to THINK when it comes to things they do for fun.

That doesn't excuse the crap that is playing on TV and at cineplexes, though. There are plenty of great "genre" movies that one could watch instead of, say, Sex and the City 2, or bad rom-coms. As for TV, basic cable and cable TV are putting out some really great shows, and I love watching The Mentalist,/i> and House (when I have some free time) on the network stations. In addition, there are great TV shows from other countries that one can find through Netflix or even (occasionally) on Youtube.

I guess the silver lining in all this, in addition to the fact that there are still some great shows on television and some great movies in theaters, is that popular fare doesn't last long in the audience's consciousness, whereas works of art do.

Though 'Hustle' is exciting, many episodes have plot holes you could drive a Hummer through. It's good fun, but not never that serious.

@ Vic the same team that brought you the wire has a new show coming out ''Tream'' Look out for that

forgot to add Breaking Bad is also totally different and grand.
On the sitcom front..Modern Family, Family Guy and 30 Rock are the best things out there.

Jack Bauer: yes there is a softer mellower side to him since season 7. I think they are trying to reduce his superman-ness and make him a bit human (cue in Brandy's I'm only Human)i even thought they were creating a Jane Bauer last two seasons.

Again I REPEAT! LOST LOST LOST. currently the thing that has me hooked is the fact I HAVE NO IDEA what's been happening the past 2 seasons...which makes you wonder do we know what happened since season1

OH ''Flashforward'' shows great promise! i hope the writers know what to do with it and where to take it!
